1958 - Schnaps out of mugs

Franz Fankhauser opened a small bar in the last years of the 1950ies – the „Texas Milchtrinkstube“ (description: Texas milk drink parlor). Why did he choose this name? Quite simple: In these days a certain licence was required to serve alcohol – of course Franz did not have this licence. Too bad, because men in the valley of “Tux” where well know for their “remarkable thirst”. The „officals made reckon without the host“. He just served the booze out of milk mugs and everybody was “satisfied”.

In these days Franz had 4 rooms that could be booked by guests.


1961 - The „Alte Hütte“ lives

Obvious, that a „Texas Milchtrinkstube“ was a kind of “misplaced” in the austrian alps. That´s why the house was renamed in 1961 – The „Alte Hütte“ was born. The name we grew up with and that should endure 45 years. With the winter sports boom the guest house grew to a capacity of 40 beds in 1974.



1989 – Modern times

With the takeover by Family Fankhauser and the roaring groth of guest numbers and their demands, a substancial modernization was required. The first sauna as well as the elevator were installed and the kitchen was moved from the cellar to the ground floor. That´s were it belonged, even it had made herself a good name with excellent game specialities.

1994 – Thomas and Ulrike

After Traudl and Franz Fankhauser had operated the hotel for over 35 years, Thomas, one of their four sons, and his wife Ulrike (Ulli) took over the “regiment”.

2003 – bigger ... more beautyful ...

Two important facilities had become to small: the sauna area and the bar. Both were styled and rebuild in a massive renewing – each in its certain way.

2007 – „my last modification“

... , Thomas said. Who knows if he keeps his mind? Anyway, what has been created here is truely remarkable: the roof was removed and new level was added on. Furthermore the cellar floor was extensively modernized. Parking space, a fitness and a seminar room were built as well as the enlargement of the sauna area. And - in the course of the these massive changes we changed our name as well. Welcome to “Alpinhotel Berghaus”!
