On the Glacier

Natur Eis Palast: In the Middle of Summer, in the Ice

The Natur Eis Palast is a walk-through crevasse in the Hintertux Glacier, featuring icicles, frozen waterfalls, and a lake that you can explore by boat. The entrance is located at 3,250 meters, 3 to 4 minutes from the upper station of the Glacier Bus 3. The temperature inside remains at 0 degrees Celsius year-round, so you can visit in any weather.

Admission is by guided tour only and open to children ages 6 and up; the tour, which includes a boat ride, lasts about 70 minutes. The glacier cable car’s valley station is a three-minute bus ride from the hotel. The Zillertal Activcard is valid on the glacier only as far as the Sommerbergalm; for the ride up, the TUX³ Ticket is required.

Beneath the Glacier

The Spannagel Cave near the Spannagel House

The Spannagel Cave is located on the Hintertux Glacier, just below the Tuxer Fernerhaus station, right next to the Spannagelhaus. Its entrance was discovered in 1919 by the innkeeper at the time, and part of it has been open to the public as a tourist cave since 1994.

The tour lasts about an hour and takes place year-round. Allow at least 40 minutes for the train ride and the walk. You’ll receive a discount with the Zillertal Activcard.

At the Reservoir: Dam, Flying Fox, and Via Ferrata

The Schlegeis Alpine Road leads to the Schlegeis Reservoir; it is open from mid-May through the end of October for 19 euros per car, including daily parking. The dam is 131 meters high and 725 meters long, and you can see the inside during a guided tour. Guided tours take place daily and last about an hour.

If you like it faster, you can ride the Flying Fox 600 meters along the wall, climb the wall via the via ferrata, or let the giant swing drop you 30 meters into the depths. If you’d rather just look around, walk along the shore toward Pfitscherjoch.
