By the Glacier Cable Car
Via the Kasererscharte to the Frauenwand
The tour begins at the Sommerbergalm at 2,100 meters; the glacier cable car from Hintertux takes you up there. The route leads over the Kasererscharte at 2,446 meters to the Frauenwand at 2,541 meters. The tourism association estimates the hike will take 3.5 hours and involve a 500-meter elevation gain; between the saddle and the summit, there is a section secured with a rope where you’ll need to be sure-footed. The weekly itinerary continues after the summit with a stop at the Tuxer Jochhaus, then through the Weitental valley, past the Schleierwasserfall, and down to Hintertux. This makes for a day-long hike of about 5 hours, with 450 meters of elevation gain and 1,000 meters of elevation loss.
You can stop for a break at the Sommerbergalm and at the Tuxerjochhaus at 2,313 meters, which is open from late June through mid-September. The ride to the Sommerbergalm is included with the Zillertal Activcard, so you don’t need a separate ticket for this tour.

Via the Tulfer Alm and Grieralm to the Höllensteinhütte
This trail connects Madseit with Lanersbach, so you can start or end it right outside your front door. It leads past the Tulfer Alm and the Grieralm at 1,787 meters to the Höllensteinhütte at 1,740 meters. The tourism association estimates the hike takes 3 hours and 45 minutes and rates it as moderate; depending on the direction, the elevation gain ranges from 535 to 650 meters. In the weekly program, you start right outside the hotel and return via Juns and the trail along the stream. That’s about 4 hours and 400 meters of elevation gain—a great way to kick off the hiking week.
The Grierlacke and Griersee lakes lie between the two huts. The Grieralm is open from June through October, and the Höllensteinhütte will be open through October 10, 2026. You can take the bus back; the bus stop is right in front of the hotel.

From the Schlegeis Reservoir
To the Olperer Hut and across the Pfitscherjoch to South Tyrol
The Neumarkter Runde trail leads to the Olpererhütte at 2,389 meters, first along the reservoir and then up through the Unterschrammachkar. This route takes 3.5 hours and involves a 650-meter elevation gain; the direct Trail 502 takes only 1.5 hours. It takes about 2 hours to reach the Pfitscherjochhaus at 2,276 meters; the border with South Tyrol lies at the top, and the hut only accepts cash. For both tours in the weekly program, you’ll carpool to the reservoir, and the hotel covers the toll. The hike to the Olpererhütte takes about 6 hours, with an elevation gain of about 800 meters and a photo opportunity on the suspension bridge. The day at the Pfitscherjoch also takes about 6 hours with a 600-meter elevation gain; at the top, you can enjoy Kaiserschmarrn.
The Schlegeis Alpine Road leads to the Schlegeis storage facility; it is open from mid-May through the end of October for 19 euros per car, including day parking. Traffic lights regulate traffic on some sections, so expect a wait of 15 to 30 minutes. It’s best to purchase your ticket online in advance, as cell service is poor at the toll booth.
Stilluptal
Along the stream to the Grüne Wand Hut
The easiest of the five hikes follows a mostly flat forest road along the stream through the Stillup Valley. The distance from the Wasserfall Inn to the Grüne Wand Hut at 1,438 meters is 7.2 kilometers, taking about 2.5 hours and covering 364 meters of elevation gain. The trail is stroller-friendly and is therefore ideal for a day out with the whole family.
A toll road leads from Mayrhofen to the Stilluptal valley; it opens in 2026 starting in mid-May, and the toll is 12 euros per car. From mid-May through mid-October, shuttle buses also run to the hut, allowing you to hike in one direction only. The Grüne Wand Hut is open from May through October.
